The library has an excellent selection of books which help broaden the perspective and understanding of the Anglican faith and Christian life. The books may be borrowed on a loan basis or can be used in the library as a study or information resource. The library is situated in the Resource Centre (formerly the Old Vestry) and visitors are welcome to browse through the shelves.
The Altar Servers assist at the Eucharist and other main services at the Cathedral, contributing immensely to the ceremonial aspects of services to provide a fitting setting for the Eucharist. Servers wear red cassocks and white cottas which complement the robes of the clergy and lay ministers and generally participate in a team of four:
- a Crucifer who carries the Cross to lead the procession
- two Acolytes who carry the candles which traditionally light the Gospel Book for the Priest or Celebrant and
- a Book-bearer who holds the Book for the Priest or Celebrant reading the Gospel.
The Servers may also assist the Celebrant at the Altar during the preparation for Holy Communion.
The main responsibility of Sidespersons is to create a positive impression of the Cathedral since they serve an important role in greeting and welcoming parishioners and visitors at the West Door before services, acting on behalf of the Church Wardens to distribute pew leaflets and ensuring that seating is found for the congregation. Sidespersons work in pairs and during the service take the offertory, count the congregation and facilitate the movement of people to the altar rail during the Eucharist. After the service they tidy the church and count the offertory.
